RE: 2006 Weekend Warrior GVWR Sticker Question

Yes, outside front left corner. But, on 2006 they aren't quite compliant with FMVSS code. - Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) Is their anyone else with 2006 WW models without the outside plate? Like there is something I could do about it now......:h Photoshop?

See if this map helps: link Searles really isn't that great. :W I'll let the Cal City regulars give you their .02 about that area.

RE: Big Rig (Tractor) towing question

Lacofdfireman put a porta-potti and a microwave in his and stenciled "not for hire" on the sides. The sleeper, combined with the lav & the "kitchen" made it an RV. I don't think my wife would appreciate a crapper in my GMC c6500 tow vehicle but I might be able to use the microwave as leverage. :B That's where the "porta" part comes in. It only has to be there until you get your registration. After that you can convert it to an icebox and fill it with chilled cokes. I imagine it's pretty easy to drain the ice water out of it. :E

RE: New Member

Welcome to The Family, Griz. We hope you enjoy the ride. As brother derwud said, we need to see some photos of the new rig. It's tradition. It gives us a chance to say "ooh" and "ahhh". The jealous ones will pick at your setup ("you're gonna need a bigger truck", "you'd better adjust your headlights, because your front end is pointed at the moon", and on and on). Get your initiation over with ASAP so you can have fun like everyone else. :B

RE: Onan 5500 Generator Question

The easiest check is the altitude setting. I normally don't touch mine, but I'll adjust it if we're at the beach or if we're way up high. Otherwise I leave it at 3000'.

RE: Big Rig (Tractor) towing question

I am curious how you get them registered as an RV Lacofdfireman put a porta-potti and a microwave in his and stenciled "not for hire" on the sides. The sleeper, combined with the lav & the "kitchen" made it an RV.

RE: Wear your Safety Gear!!!!!!!! Deaths at Jawbone

You can't legislate common sense. I counted four times this weekend that I saw different young girls riding two-up on oversized quads with no helmets. There are plenty of laws in place to protect those girls, but it's ultimately up to the adults to bring them up right. There aren't enough LEOs in the world to prevent stuff like that. Cops aren't parents, we are.

RE: Heads up- Get your Class A non-commercial

What's Class M? Marriage Sweet - I'm not due to renew mine for many many years. (She's clinging to the "death do us part" clause.) Would a 11k gross/7k empty Atti 26' bumper bull trailer require a Class A?? BTW I heard in traffic court the judge saying that Class A license holders are not EVER eligible for Traffic School.. Not true for the Non-commercial Class A, right?

RE: Heads up- Get your Class A non-commercial

My DMV made it very quick. They gave me the Non-commercial Class A written test (not abbreviated, as far as I know). I was ready for the Class C test, but either it wasn't required or they forgot. You are lucky. For me they gave me the special treatment... they made me take the Non-Commercial Class A written test, the Class C written test, and the Class M written test all at once. What's Class M?

RE: Toyhauler parade!!!! I-395@ Hwy 58

Now I know why I go out of my way to avoid the 395.. The traffic flow down the 14 yesterday was pretty good. Traffic was heavy, but only choked down a couple of times. Most drivers were pretty considerate. One guy in a big lifted 4x4 with pull hauler had been near me in traffic going through Palmdale and was good about flashing his lights for me to get into his lane, etc. He picked up his pace later and passed me going a bit faster than I wanted. Then around Acton I saw a CHP parked on the roadside without anybody pulled over. I was the last in a long line of trailers, but I slowed down to 55 just as he was pulling in behind me. The CHP had to work to get around the rest of the traffic that was also slowing down, but he finally found the hauler he was looking for: the 4x4 who had passed me earlier. He couldn't have been more than a half mile ahead of me. I felt bad for the guy. Watching the officer jump out of the cruiser...didn't look like it was going to be a warning.

RE: Thanksgiving

By the way, looks like all the tractors are gone from the gravel pit area. I noticed that too. We were trying to decide whether they'd been driven away or hauled away.

RE: Thanksgiving

We opened the White House at 10 yesterday morning and had brunch and pitchers. Outstanding trip. AND YOU DIDN'T STOP BY :( At least nather and His B I L showed up for a "Cold One" It was an OUTSTANDING TRIP to say the least!! NO DUST, LOTS of TRACTION, NO WIND, DECENT TEMPS, GREAT GOOD, GREAT FRIENDS, no one got hurt (other than some bruises and scratches) Had a great time!! Aw man, I had the Rose Parade in tow behind me everyplace we went. I passed by Nayther's camp twice and wanted to stop so bad. I managed to get away with stopping at S@ndm@n's camp near yours because he has one of our dog's puppies and everyone wanted to see the pup (but only for a few secs, then they got antsy again). I really don't enjoy leading these group rides. It's still better than not riding though. Luckily our groups were always full of great people, just not the kind of groups who would appreciate having the leader stop for a beer or three.

RE: Thanksgiving

Well it was a great trip. Rode hundreds of miles, discovered several new trails and finally made my way out to Calif. City. Those folks in town are really trying to get our business. They have a marked trail that leads right to the main street. There is a fenced in area for our bikes and lots of restaurants and bike necessities in the immediate area. We took gas cans down the street and filled up the bikes while we were there. I was very happy with the rider friendly attitude. I think we should make a real effort to patronize this city in order to show that our vacation dollars are going to go where the atmosphere is most rider friendly. I'm thinking Christmas in California City! And awaaaaaaaay we go! Very good trip, G-man. Thanks for taking good care of my neighbors when they showed up. They were very appreciative of the welcoming group. It was a great weekend. We bumped our son up from his 90 to his sister's old TTR-125. He mastered the clutch faster than any other kid I've worked with. He was a pro with the clutch when he tried it on Saturday evening. We rewarded him with his first trip into Randsburg yesterday morning. He'd been there before, but never under his own steam. He rode there and back without any trouble. We opened the White House at 10 yesterday morning and had brunch and pitchers. Outstanding trip.

RE: My WW Prophalactic Fix

SoCal Rider - Thanks for the info. I figured that I saved enough money on this weld job that I might just by a welder for fun. I have just about every other tool in my arsenal. Maybe spring for a fire extinguisher for the grass too! :B It's really cool to see someone take responsibility and do the preventative fix instead of waiting 'til it breaks and complaining about being another victim. Sexy weld or not, it looks a lot better than a busted trailer. Good going.

RE: Heads up- Get your Class A non-commercial

If the Placard is between 10,001 and 15,000 you need a restriction 41 endorsement in California. This is an abbreviated class A written test, and the standard driving written test. I had no road test, no pre-inspection demonstration. I paid my $28, had a new picture taken, and now have my class C license with RSTR:41 noted on the front with a statement I can pull a fifth wheel between 10,001 and not over 15,000 GVWR on the back. No sweat, except it took the buffoons 4 hours to figure out how to give it to me. I had all of their documents printed from their website. If there was ever a plot for the Keystone Cops, this was it. Good luck!! :R:S My DMV made it very quick. They gave me the Non-commercial Class A written test (not abbreviated, as far as I know). I was ready for the Class C test, but either it wasn't required or they forgot. But she made a big deal about the fact that there was no charge for the test. The only real surprise for me was that I needed a new photo. I wish I'd known that. I would have had my hair done. It was pouring out and I was a mess. I'll miss my old photo of the tanned twenty-something version of myself.

Thanks to all for their sage advice. I got a 06 wr250. Just seemed to fit better. Looking forward to meeting some of you in the Spangler area this weekend! We'll see you out there Dave.

RE: Thanksgiving

Ok the second storm seems to be subsiding. There are rigs lined up all the way to the road. I heard someone was stuck in the mud hence the hold up. Dennis said that u need a free permit to go to Randsberg this year. The BLM are having people sign documents as they pull in and then are giving out permits. Ill keep u guys informed of any more developments in this area. Remember itis extremely crowded here now so camp might be the best entertainment of all. All I need is just one more spot. :B Save me one.

RE: So Fla. AARP (Al And Reeni's Party) Weekend

Wathehell happened to my thread!? My plans for a party weekend have suddenly gone, well, . . . wait . . . never mind. Drinkwater - yer in! You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. Nothing's sacred. Looks like you've got some good interest in your group already. That's not bad for such a slow week on the forum. I bet if you twist Darryl's arm a little bit he'd borrow his pop's land yacht again to make the coast-to-coast trip. You just have to make it worth his while. He likes the 'spensive beers (the ones with the nitrogen bulbs in the cans).
